THORNEY LIEBERMAN - PHOTOGRAPHER
Echo-Hawk & Lieberman PAINTED INDIANS A Collaboration Museum der Weltkulturen This exhibition which hung on the outside of the museum represented a collaboration between painter Bunky Echo-Hawk and photographer Thorney Lieberman. In this collaboration Indians bodies, along with a background, are painted and then photographed. It is necessary to photograph this resulting painting, as the painting on a human body is transient. However, photography is employed not merely as a document, but allows further elaboration of the image, often resulting in a confounding of the picture plane, that is, creation of an ambiguity of foreground and background. NOTE: This work was displayed on the exterior of the building, utilizing the windows as frames for the work and showed the collaborative works of Bunky’s paintings and Thorney’s photographs. This was the genesis of the their collaboration. |
